Good Morning Music

Good morning and happy Monday!

If you know me, you probably know that I am not a morning person, but one of my life goals is to become a morning person. (It’s on my Before 30 List too, because I want this to happen sooner rather than later.)

I haven’t wanted to jinx myself since it’s been going so well, but this is my third week of getting up early, and I’m sort of in love with it. Since I’m living with 2 other people now, and we all have to be at work at 8am on certain days, we’ve had to come up with some sort of bathroom schedule so we can all get showered and ready. I bravely volunteered to get up first, thinking it would force me to get up and get to work on time, and it’s actually worked!

OK, I still have to set 2 alarms, and sometimes I lay back down before I finish getting ready, but it’s so nice to feel like I can relax before work and not be running out the door 30 minutes after I’m supposed to be there.

One of the things that’s really helped is finding a couple great playlists for getting up early. The first is a Spotify playlist I stumbled upon called Early Morning Rise. I saw my favorite Portugal. The Man song and “Float On” by Modest Mouse on it and was sold.

The other is a Songza playlist called Sunny-Side Up Morning that I’ve been using when I get to work in the morning. The description on it is, “Ease into the day with these bright and airy tunes from the ’60s and ’70s.” Sounds perfect to me. The Beach Boys, John Lennon, The Mamas & The Papas…I mean, what else could you ask for?

Ironically, as I’ve been typing up this post I haven’t been listening to either of these playlists. But hey, a little Leonard Cohen never hurt anyone, right? Any other morning music recommendations? Have a wonderful day!
