This weekend is pretty exciting because I’m getting to see not one, but two of my favorite bands in concert. On Thursday night I got to see the amazing Tom Petty play at the Ford Center here in Evansville, and today I’m heading down to Nashville to see the Avett Brothers play at Bridgestone Arena.
I went to see Tom Petty with four of my best friends. We decided to skip the opening act (The Smithereens) in favor of heading to the Peephole for drinks before the show. Unfortunately, I was lame and didn’t get any pictures, but trust me when I say it was a good time all around.
The concert started at 7:30, and we headed over to the Ford Center around 8:30. This ended up being perfect, because by the time we got to our seats (in the rafters), we only had a few minutes before Tom Petty took the stage.
The lovely Kristyn and Natalie before the show started.
And the equally lovely (and goofy) Britani and Kati.
Even though our seats were super high up, they actually were pretty decent. I mean, the good thing about the Ford Center is there’s not really a bad seat.
OK, so this photo might not be the best example. But we could see really well! And the sound was incredible. The band played a really good mix of hit songs and some lesser-known ones. I was surprised to hear so many of my favorite songs so early in the set—”I Won’t Back Down” was played third I think!
About half an hour into the show, Brit’s former company graciously invited us to come to the party deck and watch. So we headed over there for an even better look at the stage, free food, and some place to spread out and dance.
This concert was so much fun and honestly flew by. We ended up leaving before the encore because everyone (except me) had to work the next day. Here’s the full set list they played if you are interested. I was really disappointed that I missed “Don’t Come Around Here No More.” (Anyone else remember the video? I remember watching it as a kid and thinking it was so weird.)
Highlights of the show: people watching, hearing “Free Fallin'” live, and dancing with my friends like a bunch of weirdos. All in all, a great night. I’ll be sure to take photos of the Avett Brothers tonight and post a recap of that soon. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
