You guys, I just finished reading the Harry Potter series last week. This is my second time through all the books (I read Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows before each of the movies came out, so this is technically the third time I’ve read those two). I restarted the series in January after my roommate moved out and I was waiting to move into my new place. Real talk: I had no TV and no Internet and needed something to do with my evenings. As a former English major, I’m very ashamed I just typed those words.
The first time I read the series was a couple years ago, when I was living in Cincinnati. I was super reluctant to read Harry Potter because I was a book snob, but I fell in love almost instantly. I’ve said this many times, but that was the first time in a long time that all I wanted to do was read. Before bed, on the weekends, at night when I got home from work—I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next.
I’m not going to say anything here that hasn’t already been said about these books. The series is truly beautiful, and it has so much to say about friendship, bravery, sacrifice, and love. If you for some reason haven’t given it a chance, you are crazy and need to.
Also, my favorite character is Dumbledore.
